English Saddles Made With Wool Flocking

Horse saddles, this is a broad category and covers many issues but today we will cover the issue of English saddles. Particularly the English saddles made with wool flocking. If you are the type of person who has no knowledge whatsoever about horses and/or saddles, than this article will inform you of what you need to know.

A saddle has to be stuffed with something soft to ensure that your horse will not get a sore back from having the saddle and the rider constantly “on its back”. There are two different types of stuffing to have in a saddle, there are the saddles that have the foam in them and then there are the ones that have the wool in it. This is what they call “wool flocking”. This is the type of saddle that we will discuss today.

If you have a saddle that has the wool flocking in it, then you have to get it restuffed so to speak at least every three months if you are a heavy rider who rides all the time. If you are the type who rides your horse occasionally, then you can probably get away with only having it re-done at least once a year.

Make sure that you get it done according to these guidelines, your horse will thank you for it. I am sure that you would not like to have a horse that is cranky because it has a sore back. If you have bought an English saddle made with wool flocking, then you have made a wise investment.

Here are a few things to keep in mind for the maintenance of your saddle after you have made your purchase. Try to keep the saddle clean by wiping it down with a soft cloth after every use. This is a great habit to start and it will maintain your English saddle and keeps it looking like new.

You can use glycerin soap to clean it, or any other brand that you may prefer, it does not have to specifically be glycerin soap but this type of soap is gentler on the saddle. A good idea to put into practice also is to use a conditioner on the saddle at least once a week. It will keep the saddle from cracking which we all know can happen if the leather is not maintained properly.

Try not to use oils on the saddle because it doesn't really help the leather anyway and most people who use oils tend to go overboard and use too much. Remember the old saying “less is best”? The same principal applies when you are cleaning your saddle.

You don't want to use too much soap or cleaner because it will just create a build up on the saddle which will make it look dull over time. When you are using the weekly conditioner on your saddle, try to keep the application to thin coats. As stated, this will prevent unsightly build up. I hope that this article has helped you in learning how to maintain your English saddle with wool flocking.
